DescriptionDisposal of Australian gold shipments during 'war risk' period. Cessation of gold sales to United Kingdom (UK), May 1944; need to build gold reserves to meet International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) obligations. September 1954: gold production of Fiji and New Zealand added to that of Australia; November 1955: Bank express concern at growing size of gold reserves. The bank became the Reserve Bank of Australia on 14 January 1960.
