DescriptionExtensive discussions in the Bank and in Whitehall, and with overseas countries, international organisations and groupings, and overseas countries and central banks, much of the last being at Ministerial or Governor/Executive Director level. The files are concerned with international liquidity problems: mainly gold, International Monetary Fund (IMF) drawing rights and the main reserve currencies - United States (US) dollars and sterling. The subject matter also broadens out, particularly following the Smithsonian Agreement of 1971, to reform of the international monetary system as a whole. Subjects include G10 Deputies and G10 Ministers and Governors meetings; Other Groups (eg G5); Committee of Twenty (C20), 1972-74; From 1971, European Economic Community (EEC) Monetary Committee and Committee of Central Bank Governors' meetings when consideration given to Reform issues; The role of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in this field.
