Biography
Very sadly, we recently received the news of the passing of Mel. Mel was an outstanding and unique colleague, the life and soul of the Bank, and an outstanding bank supervisor. Our thoughts and prayers go to Mel’s family. She will be missed greatly, but not forgotten.
Mel Beaman is Executive Director for the Resolution Directorate, responsible for exercising our role as the UK’s Resolution Authority. Resolution is a way to manage the failure of a bank, building society, or central counterparty. It is used to minimise the impact of failure on depositors, the financial system and public finances. Mel represents the Bank of England on the Financial Stability Board’s Resolution Steering Group (FSB ResG).
Mel has over 25 years of experience in Banking Supervision and helped to shape and implement the post 2007-08 financial crisis reforms.
Previously, Mel was Director of UK Deposit Takers Directorate, responsible for the supervision of the UK’s banks, building societies and credit unions. Mel has also held leading supervisory roles on the international side, including as Head of Major UK International Banks and Head of Overseas Banks.
