Historical customers of the Bank of England

This temporary display will reveal a few of the famous individuals who held stock or accounts at the Bank during the 18th and 19th century

Date: From 5 March 2018
Time: 10.00am - 4.30pm

 

The display explores how financial records found in the Bank’s Archive (such as stock ledgers and customer accounts) can help uncover details of the lives of individuals from the past. Famous customers of the Bank included George Frideric Handel, JMW Turner and Charles Dickens. The display examines individuals’ relationships with the Bank, shedding light on their personal relationships, career highs and lows and their instincts as investors.
