Pounds and Personalities - Historical customers of the Bank of England

This temporary display will reveal a few of the famous individuals who held stock or accounts at the Bank during the 18th and 19th century

Famous historical customers of the Bank of England include the composer George Frederic Handel, the painter JMW Turner, novelist Charles Dickens and members of the Darwin-Wedgwood family, including the naturalist Charles Darwin. In this display, we look at some of their financial records to explore what they can tell us about these individuals’ personal, artistic and family life.
