That’s why Bank of England economists Rupal Patel and Jack Meaning have gone about writing a new book, Can’t We Just Print More Money?. It takes us inside the hallowed halls of the Bank to explain what economics can - and can’t - teach us about the world. Along the way, it offers intriguing examples of econ in action: in financial crises and Freddo prices, happy hours and monopoly powers.

Join us as journalist-turned-bookseller Tom Rowley interviews economists-turned-authors Rupal Patel and Jack Meaning as they set about demystifying the economy and answering your burning questions about money.

The free talk will be followed by a drinks reception and opportunity to look around the Bank of England Museum. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and can be signed by the authors.

About the authors:

Rupal Patel and Jack Meaning are economists at the Bank of England. Rupal specialises in trying to prevent economic crises, which means you know who to blame when everything goes wrong. Jack is focused on protecting the pound in your pocket, which means he goes to lots of long meetings about interest rates.

About Tom Rowley:

Until recently Tom Rowley was a journalist for the likes of The Economist, The Washington Post and The Daily Telegraph. He ditched that gig in March to pursue his true passion, launching a new independent bookshop in London, Backstory. With a knowledge of the economy and love of books, he is perfectly positioned to host the launch of Can’t We Just Print More Money?
