| Title | PAPERS RELATING TO FORGED BANK NOTES: INVESTIGATION FOR UTTERING FORGED NOTES - THOMAS PALK, EDWARD PALK, JOHN HARRIS SENIOR, JOHN HARRIS JUNIOR AND LOUIS DENIS |
| Date | 5 Jan 1819 - 4 Jun 1819 |
| Description | Statement on content and language: there is mention of domestic abuse. Bundle comprises mainly correspondence, including a letter from Thomas Palk (of Galmpton) to John Harris enclosing forged notes, which are no longer enclosed. John Harris senior and his son were both suspected of using forged notes. John Harris senior (of Devon) and Louis Denis (of Dunkirk) were found in possession of the forged notes sent by Thomas Palk when the two men travelled from Cherbourg to Guernsey. The papers in the bundle generally refer simply to John Harris, so it is not always clear whether father or son is being referred to. Edward Palk was Thomas Palk's brother; he was arrested for passing forged notes.
