DescriptionThomas and Martha Willis, who were married, each uttered forged notes. Martha Willis and James Bird uttered forged notes to the same person. The forged notes were uttered in Somerset. The bundle includes instructions from John Winter, solicitor to the Bank, to his agent Mr Tucker, who was instructed to go to Somerset to investigate. In addition to Thomas and Martha Willis and James Bird, the bundle names Adelam and his wife, and Richard Welsh and his brother Thomas Welsh, all of whom were suspected of uttering forged notes as well as committing other crimes, such as dealing in low price horses.
