DescriptionSamuel Waring, who lived in Birmingham, volunteered to become an informant and provide details of forgery occurring in Birmingham. The bundle comprises correspondence between Waring and the Bank which indicates that Waring detected Joseph [Rowby], who was selling forged bank notes in Birmingham. Waring also wrote to the Bank regarding John Wootton, John [Hooson] and William Phillips, who he claimed were sending base coin from Birmingham to London. The bundle also includes an insert on the case of Joseph Birch of Coventry, who uttered a forged note.
