Description | Shore to ship Marconigram from Deputy Governor Ernest Harvey to Governor Montagu Norman (who was on a ship in the mid-Atlantic) regarding the decision for the UK to come off the gold standard and newspaper speculation over Norman's health. The telegram was sent the night before the UK abandoned the Gold Standard and reads as follows: 'Your decision quite right STOP Enquiry doubtless caused by irresponsible note regarding health in Daily Mail STOP Sorry we have to go off tomorrow and cannot wait to see you before doing so STOP Hope you are well all send greetings Ernest' |
