DescriptionThree letters and one note relating to the Bank. The first manuscript letter from George Cruikshank (cartoonist) to Captain Swanborough [with reply on the reverse] (1875). The second manuscript letter from George Cruikshank (unsigned) to Joseph Whitaker concerns Cruikshank's Bank Restriction Note. The letter describes how Cruikshank was inspired to create the note after witnessing a public execution; he also mentions the aftermath. The third letter is from [the Editor of The Bankers Magazine] to [George Cruikshank] it concerns Cruikshank providing an illustration of the Old Lady of Threadneedle Street for an article in the magazine (1845). The note concerns John Parry who was transported to Melbourne for passing a forged Bank of England bank note in a public house. The note aslo lists his expenses. It is not clear how this note relates to the 3 letters.
