Description | Memorandum explaining the need to change the location of specific offices in the Bank. Including, need to increase the space occupied by the Private Drawing Office to accommodate more clerks, move the Secretary's Office to a more convenient location, open up an entrance on Prince's Street (that had been previously blocked up for 30 years), reduce the size of the Printing Department (due to the introduction of new bank note printing machines). Also included are three appendicies: 1.) A statistical table showing the average balances, number of staff and number of Private Drawing Office accounts (for the years 1853 - 1880) 2.) The printing capacity and economy of the new bank note printing machines, 3.) Visitors to 'see the Bank'. Two plan views of the ground floor of the Bank of England showing the current layout of the Bank (as in 1881) and the proposed layout as described in the memorandum. |
