Admin HistoryAcres' believed that Grahame's retirement from the Bank 'had nothing to do with ill-health, but to his [Grahame's] resentment of the bullying manner of a Director with whom he was discussing some official business, when he was provoked into saying "You're no gentleman". Acres believed the Director concerned was Walter Cunliffe (later Governor of the Bank).
DescriptionTyped (and signed) letter from W. Marston Acres to John Giuseppi concering Acres' own understanding of the circumstances surrounding Kenneth Grahame's quitting of the Bank. Acres signs off the letter with a postscript commening on his own recent bout of ill health, and slow recovery.
