Admin History | An entry for these bonds has been included as part of series 20A29 because the bonds are listed in the Unpublished War History, in the Loans list at the end of the chapter on 'War Loans' (Ch. 3, M7/156, https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/-/media/boe/files/archive/ww/boe-1914-1921-vol1-chapter3.pdf); however, contrary to all other loans which are thoroughly described, it is not included earlier in Ch. 3. There do not appear to be any ledgers in the catalogue that correspond to this stock. The loans office wallet AC30/378 provides some context as to the issue of the 3% Exchequer Bonds in January of 1918. These were issued to enable holders of Imperial Russian Government Treasury Bills to exchange these Treasury Bills for 3% Exchequer bonds in response to the unstable situation in Russia, but the connection between the 3% Exchequer Bonds 1930 and the financing of the First World War is unclear. |
