Description | A series including letters largely sent to Humphrey Morice by various correspondents. It also includes a small number of letters between other correspondents, most of whom have some connection with Humphrey Morice, for example family members or business partners.
The letters include a large collection sent to Humphrey Morice by his cousin Nicholas Morice over a period of 9 years between 1706 and 1726. As well as family members senders include trading partners and leading figures of the day, such as Robert Walpole who was Prime Minister between 1721 and 1742.
Many of the letters concern business and trade, in particular trade to Africa and the Caribbean. The letters also include family news and discussions of social engagements, as well as comments on contemporary politics. |
