| Admin History | Per Jacobsson was the Chairman and Managing Director of the IMF from December 1956 until his death in May 1963. At a meeting in Basle in November 1963 a proposal was made to set up a Per Jacobsson Memorial Foundation to finance and publish lectures related to international monetary problems and to give financial assistance for research in the monetary field. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) approached the BIS regarding its establishment. |
