| Admin History | The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) was founded in 1959. The agreement establishing it was drafted by the Organisation of American States (OAS) and was ratified by the following countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, HaitÃ, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and the United States. Initial funds were derived from these countries, principally the United States. The aims of the IDB were to promote public and private investment in member countries; to use its own capital and market borrowings to provide loans and to give guarantees; to co-operate with the member countries to orient their development policies towards a better utilization of their resources; and to provide technical assistance for the preparation, financing, and implementation of development plans and projects. Many of the papers use the acronym IADB rather than IDB |
