Issues for discussion at Committee meetings included the harmonisation of taxation (value-added tax (VAT), tax on insurance premiums, tax on security transactions, corporation tax, taxation of mergers etc); harmonisation of insurance (motor vehicle insurance, life assurance, the establishment of insurance brokers etc); merger control and the regulation of takeover bids; and parliamentary scrutiny of proposed EEC legislation.
