Admin History | Loan issuing was originally performed by a Section of the Chief Cashier's Office, which after a move to new premises in 1916, was re-named the Loans Office. In 1920, the Loans Office was amalgamated with the Dividend Pay Office (est 1845) to form the Dividend Pay and Loans Office (see: 'A domestic history of the Bank of England', Hennessy, p.253).
The Warrant Pay Section of the Dividend Pay and Loans Office was transferred to the Bill Office on the 15 Sep 1969, when the Warrant Accounting Computer Project came into operation. At this point, it was decided that the Dividend Pay and Loans Office should be re-named the Loans Office (see: Archive Ref C6/13, folio 67).
On the 9 May 1977, the Loans Office was amalgamated with the Chief Accountant's Office, Head Office, into one new office named Chief Accountant's Office, Bank Buildings; this office sat within the Accountant's Department (see: Archive Ref C6/13, folio 71). This new office undertook work formerly carried out by Chief Accountant's Office, Head Office (Jobbers Counter) and by the Dividend Pay and Loans Office, Cashier's Department, except for new issues.
