Its task was to consider the timing and consequences of the United Kingdom (UK) ceasing to rely on Article XIV of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) rules (which allowed some exchange restrictions and discrimination for a 'transitional' post-war period) and so becoming subject to the IMF's Article VIII (which required countries to liberalise their trade and payments unless the IMF allowed exceptions). |
