Admin History | Joshua Saunders was employed by the Bank as sub-Agent (as it was termed in the salary ledger of the time, E47/2) of the Manchester branch in 1845. In 1847, he was appointed Agent of the Bristol branch where he remained until his retirement in 1870. His son, James Carr Saunders joined the Commercial Union Assurance Company in 1864 and rose to became chairman and served on the boards of other companies, including the Metropolitan Electrical Company and the Midland and South Western Junction Railway. His grandson Sir Alexander Carr Saunders was at one time a director of the London School of Economics (LSE). |
