Admin HistoryThe Bank of England Prize Essay competition, established in 1936, was a competition run by the Institute of Bankers. The prize (originally £30) was given by the Bank of England to be awarded to the individual member of the Institute who wrote the best essay on a Central Banking subject as chosen by the Institute. Following the decline in popularity of the Bank of England Prize Essay competition it was replaced by a travel scholarship known as the European Banking Scholarship (EBS). The first EBS prize was awarded in 1970.
