| Description | The file known as the 'O'Brien Private Papers' (C42/17) containing miscellaneous memoranda presumably passed from Chief Cashier to Chief Cashier, finally resting with Leslie Kenneth O'Brien (later Lord O'Brien). A series of files, sometimes referred to as the Chief Cashier's personal files, were started during Kenneth Oswald Peppiatt's time as Chief Cashier. The main subjects covered are Bank Rate and interest rates generally, gilt-edged market policy, credit control, Exchequer financing and monetary and financial forecasts. The files contain many original documents which may be found duplicated in other archive classes, as well as copies of papers emanating from Governors' files. |
