TitleANGLO-INTERNATIONAL, LONDON MERCHANT, HUTHS
DateOct 1932 - Sep 1933
DescriptionThis file contains papers stemming from the suggestion that some of the weaker merchant banks should merge using fresh capital provided by the Bank. The houses originally in mind were the Anglo-International Bank, the London Merchant Bank, F Huth & Co and the Anglo-French Banking Corporation. The last was dropped at the outset, but later A Ruffer & Sons and the London & Eastern Trade Bank were considered. [It came to nought for a reason that the file does not specifically relate, but difficulties of valuing frozen assets appear to have been one factor, the main one probably that there were insufficient good assets in the businesses together to provide the basis for a single viable one.] Discount Office file relating to support operations.
