TitleDISCOUNT OFFICE FILE RELATING TO INTELLIGENCE FUNCTION: PREVENTION OF FRAUD - SHAREPUSHING
DateMay 1962 - May 1963
Admin HistoryThe report of a Departmental Committee appointed by the Board of Trade on sharepushing led to the Prevention of Fraud (Investments) Act 1939. The publication of regulations under the Act was delayed until 1944, and in the intervening period the Bank, in particular Deputy Governor Basil Gage Catterns, already heavily involved in Companies Act matters, was consulted on such questions as general exemptions, eg issuing houses (prior to the establishment of the Investment Houses Association [IHA]).
DescriptionThe file contains papers arising from the Board of Trade's practice, directly or via HM Treasury (HMT), of consulting the Bank (Discount Office) on applications for a Principal's Licence, or for exemption from the Prevention of Fraud (Investments) Act 1939.
