| Description | This file contains only one note. It is an account by Kenneth Oswald Peppiatt, then Chief Cashier, of a meeting the Governor had with the President of the Accident Offices Association on the question of support for the Universal Insurance Company. It was agreed at a further meeting, reported in an addendum, that since other companies were not in difficulties, the tariff companies should support the company. The Bank's role appears to have been primarily to allay HM Treasury (HMT) and Board of Trade fears. |
