Description | The papers stem from an Accepting Houses Committee request of the Governor in 1937 for help through HM Government (HMG) in resisting certain claims against members for foreign and colonial tax authorities. Representations to the governments concerned were made through the Foreign Office and Colonial Office, and by January 1939 all cases had been settled. The rest of the file is taken up with Brazilian foreign income tax, 1948-50; and United States (US) withholding tax on American securities held by British banks for account of non-resident customers, 1959-60. The papers consist mainly of correspondence between the Bank and The Treasury (HMT), AHC and the Inland Revenue. |
