ActivityFirst incorporated in 1862 as the London, Buenos Aires & River Plate Bank it merged with the London & Brazilian Bank to form the Bank of London and South America (BOLSA). Lloyds Bank Ltd was the controlling shareholder. At the request of the Bank of England, BOLSA acquired the struggling Anglo-South American Bank in 1936. Under the leadership of former Bank of England Executive Director Sir George Bolton, BOLSA thrived after the Second World War. In 1971 BOLSA and Lloyds Bank Europe were transferred into a new company, Lloyds & Bolsa International Bank Ltd. This was renamed Lloyds Bank International in 1974, and then became Lloyds Bank (BLSA) Ltd in 1988.
