ActivityEducated at Winchester and New College, Oxford, Morse joined the clearing bank Glyn, Mills & Co. in 1953, and was appointed a director in 1964. Later that year he moved to the Bank of England to be Executive Director with responsibility for home finance, and in 1966 his responsibilities were changed to overseas affairs. In 1972 Morse was appointed as Chairman of the Deputies of the Committee on Reform of the International Monetary System (the Committee of Twenty or C20) which had been formed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The Committee was disbanded in 1974. In 1975 Morse became Deputy Chairman of Lloyds Bank and then Chairman from 1977, a post he held until 1993. He returned to the Bank as a Non-Executive Director from 1993 - 1997.
