| Activity | Educated at Haileybury and Imperial Service College, Galpin joined the Bank in 1952. Between 1962 and 1966 he was Private Secretary to Governor Rowley Cromer. In 1970 Galpin moved to the Discount Office as Deputy Principal, and was Deputy Chief Cashier, Banking and Money Market Supervision (BAMMS) from 1974 to 1978. Galpin then became Chief of Establishments (1978 - 1980) followed by Chief of Corporate Services in 1980. He was made an Associate Director in 1982 and an Executive Director in 1984. Galpin left the Bank in 1988 to become Chairman and Group Chief Executive of Standard Chartered. |
