| Activity | Gill was educated at Cambridgeshire High School and Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. He joined the Bank in 1957. Gill was seconded to the UK Treasury Delegation in Washington DC between 1966 and 1968, and he was Private Secretary to Governor Leslie O'Brien from 1970 to 1972. Between 1977 and 1980 Gill was seconded to HM Treasury, after which he was Chief Manager, Banking and Credit Markets (1980 - 1982), Head of Foreign Exchange Division (1982 - 1988) and Chief of the Banking Department and Chief Cashier (1988 - 1991).
