ActivitySir George Edmond Brackenbury Abell (OBE, KCIE, CIE) was born on 22 June 1904. He was educated at Marlborough and Corpus Christi, Oxford and served with the Indian Civil Service from 1928 to 1947 before joining the Bank in 1948. He was an Adviser to the Governors (1948 - 1949) and an Assistant to the Governors (1949 - 1952) after which he was Executive Director with responsibility for staff and premises. He retired from the Bank in 1964 and died on 11 January 1989.
