| Activity | Charles Bruce-Gardner had already gained extensive experience in the mining and metals sectors before he was appointed Managing Director of Securities Management Trust Ltd (SMT) in 1930 and was also Chairman of the Bankers Industrial Development Company (BID) (1930 - 1938). Bruce-Gardner became an Adviser to the Governors in 1935 and left the Bank in 1938. He went on to become the Chairman of the Society of British Aircraft Constructors Ltd (1938 - 1943) and was Chairman of the nationalised British Iron and Steel Corporation from 1953 to 1960. |
