Activity | Grafftey-Smith joined the Bank in 1923. He was made Assistant Principal of the Discount Office in 1938. After serving in the Army during the Second World War, Grafftey-Smith returned to the Bank and was appointed Acting Adviser to the Governors in 1947 and a Deputy Chief Cashier the following year. In 1952 Grafftey-Smith left the Bank to become Financial Adviser to the Government of Southern Rhodesia and in 1955 he was appointed Governor-designate of the new Central Bank of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. Grafftey-Smith died in 1960 at the age of 57. |
