ActivityClaude Loombe joined the Bank in 1945 as an Acting Adviser specialising on the Middle East (he had worked in the region earlier in his career and was a member of the Jordan Currency Board from its establishment in August 1949 to its dissolution in 1964. He was also a member of the Libya Preparatory Currency Committee, which met in Geneva and London during 1951, and of the Currency Commission itself, which met in London and Libya between February 1952 and October 1956. The Commission handed over its major responsibilities to the new National Bank of Libya on 1 April 1956, and was finally dissolved on 30 Nov of that year. Loombe became an Adviser to the Governors in 1964 and retired from the Bank in 1965. After this he joined the British Bank of the Middle East and was its Chairman from 1967 to 1974.
