Activity | Charkham was educated at St Paul's School, Jesus College, Cambridge, and was called to the Bar in 1953. He held various directorships until moving into the Civil Service in 1969. Charkham was Director of the Public Appointments Unit between 1975 and 1982. In 1982 he was seconded to the Director of PRO NED, an initiative supported by the Bank to promote the role of non-executive directors on company boards. After this he became Chief Adviser, and then Adviser to the Governors, leaving the Bank in 1993. |
