OtherFormsOfNameBAMMS
ActivityIn the aftermath of the secondary banking crisis late-1973, early 1974, the Discount Office was abolished and replaced by a new office, Banking and Money Market Supervision (BAMMS). This was part of the Cashier's Department and was responsible for the day-to-day operational dealings with the money markets, and for banking supervision. This was the first time that banking supervision was recognised as a specific function of the Bank. At the reorganisation of the Bank in 1980, BAMMS was split, with the money markets area moving to a separate section, Money Markets Division, and supervision becoming the Banking Supervision Division (BSD).
