ActivityAlthaus was born in 1929. He went to Eton and Magdalen College, Oxford. He joined the stockbroking firm of Pember and Boyle, becoming a partner in 1955. He became editor of British Securities in the Twentieth Century and chairman of the Stock Exchange Benevolent Fund. He was appointed Government Broker in 1982, leaving Pember and Boyle to join the firm of Mullens. In 1986 changes in the regulation of the City and Stock Exchange led to the disappearance of Mullens as a separate firm. Althaus's office was moved to the Bank of England where he spent the last three years of his tenure as Government Broker. He retired and was knighted in 1989. He died 30 July 2007.
