| Activity | Educated at Wolverhampton Grammar School and King's College, Cambridge Mervyn King pursued an academic career, latterly as Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics (1985 - 1995). He joined the Court of the Bank of England as a Non-Executive Director in 1990, and in 1991 was appointed Executive Director and Chief Economist. He has been a member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) since it was established in 1997. In 1998 King was appointed Deputy Governor, and in 2003 he became Governor. He retired as Governor of the Bank in 2013. |
