ActivityIn March 1980, the Overseas Department was split up and re-named the International and Territorial Divisions, however, these International Divisions (as they were more commonly known) continued to operate as one unit. Over the next 14 years, the International Divisions went through a series of splits and amalgamations until finally they were disbanded, in 1994, and their work distributed to other areas of the Bank. This final distribution of work went as follows: International economic analysis went to Monetary Analysis (MA); surveillance of foreign financial markets and structures went to Supervision and Surveillance (S&S) where it ran directly alongside the operational supervision of foreign banks in London, and Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and other European monetary matters went to the Policy Planning Group (PPG) and the Regulatory Policy Division (RPD).
