EpithetChief Cashier (1807 - 1829)
ActivityHenry Hase entered the Bank's service on 28 March 1793 at the age of 30. He was elected on the nomination of Job Mathew. Hase commenced work in the Bank Note Office at a salary of £50 per annum, moving to the Cashier's Office in 1795. In this office he moved steadily up the ladder and in September 1807 succeeded Abraham Newland as Chief Cashier, a post he held until his death in 1829. Apparently Hase did not wish to live in the Chief Cashier's apartment in the Bank and this was, instead, occupied by the First Assistant Cashier. Henry Hase died suddenly on 26 March 1829 aged 66.
