ActivityRoy Fenton joined the Manchester Trustee Savings Bank in 1935 until September 1939 when he joined the Lancashire Fusiliers. He went on to command the 5th Battalion of the Kings Own Scottish Borderers. On his release from the army in 1946, and after a brief spell with the Chartered Bank of India, he joined the Bank of England where he spent much of his career in the Overseas Department. He was appointed to represent the United Kingdom on the Managing Board of the European Payments Union (EPU) in Paris. In 1958 he was seconded to Nigeria to build and launch its central bank, and served as Governor in its early years, 1958-63. For his work in Nigeria he was awarded the CMG. On his return, he became the Deputy Chief of Central Banking Information Department, 1963 - 1964, Deputy Chief of Overseas Department, 1964 - 1965, and Chief of Overseas Department, 1965 - 1975. He retired from the Bank in 1975 to join Keyser Ullmann as Chief Executive.
