Activity | Roy Heasman, born in 1914, was educated St Dunstan's Catford. He joined the Bank in 1932 and was employed in the Stock and Cash Offices, then Economics and Statistics, followed by the Overseas and Foreign Office. In 1939, he was seconded to China to help Cyril Rogers and was taken prisoner by the Japanese, held captive in Hong Kong from 1941 to 1945. He returned to work and was a member of the UK delegation in Paris for the European Payments Agreement in 1948 - 1950, and returned there four years later as the UK Alternate Member of the Managing Board of the European Payments Union. He followed this with a two year term as Alternate Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, and then successively he became Deputy Chief of the Central Bank Information Department, 1959; Chief of Economic Intelligence, 1964; Chief Accountant, 1967 (during which time he acted as Chairman of a City working party on Securities Dealing which led to the Heasman Report); and Chief of Management Services, 1970 until his retirement in 1973.
Heasman died in 1976. An address by the Deputy Governor was given at Heasman's Memorial Service. |
