Activity | G F Neame were merchants and agents specialising in imported timber. The firm started business in 1864, and assumed the title G F Neame and Co in 1878. During the First World War, the firm received an advance from the Bank against its pre-moratorium bills. This debt remained outstanding and in 1924 the Bank accepted in settlement 3% preferred ordinary shares in a new limited company, G F Neame & Co Ltd, which was formed from the original partnership. The Banks shares were held through the Securities Trust Ltd. After experiencing further difficulties Neames merged with Boyson & Slee in 1932 to form Boyson & Neame Ltd. In order to realise the frozen assets of G F Neame, the Bank formed a new company A N Assets, which also held deferred shares in Boyson & Neame, again through the Securities Trust. In 1937, the Boyson & Neame business amalgamated with Foy Morgan & Co Ltd. There followed a lengthy process of liquidating the Boyson & Neame company and this delayed the final dissolution of A N Assets until 1949. |
