Activity | Arthur Blomfield was fourth son of Charles James Blomfield (1786–1857), bishop of London, and his wife, Dorothy (1795–1870), daughter of the brewer Charles William Cox. Blomfield was educated at Rugby School and Trinity College, Cambridge. After university he was articled for three years to Philip Charles Hardwick (1822–1892), architect to the Bank of England and the son of Philip Hardwick.
At the Bank of England he was responsible for the Law Courts Branch (1886–1888), which he designed in a classical style. His son, A C Blomfield, also an Architect, worked at the Bank during (1899-1919). |
