Activity | The Nilgiri Railway Company Ltd was formed in 1886, and at the same time it obtained a concession to build a railway in Madras, India. The construction was to be financed by an issue of debentures which were privately placed in London through the Union Debenture Company with some half dozen investors including the Bank Provident Society, Lord Rosebery, A E Hope and various investment trusts. The brokers acting for the placers were Coleman & May. The company went into liquidation leaving the debenture holders (co-ordinated by the Bank) to make arrangements for the completion of the railway. Kept for possible light on the Frank May episode. |
