ActivityFollowing Independence in September 1964, the Maltese Government sought technical assistance from the Bank of England to establish a central bank. In February 1967, Dr Philip L. Hogg, a senior official of the Bank of England, arrived in Malta to carry out preliminary organisational and legislative work. Five months later, on 17 April 1968, the Central Bank of Malta was formally established, with Dr Hogg appointed as the first Governor of the Bank.
