Harman is listed as a subscriber to the London Committee and supported the abolition of slavery as early as 1788. However, through the merchant company he helped enable the trade through the provision of mortgages and he also benefited from the compensation scheme in 1833.
He is listed as a claimant and beneficiary in relation to slavery compensation, for three estates worked by enslaved people in St Kitts.
