Activity | Cobbold (KG 1970, GCVO 1963 PC 1959) was educated at Eton and King's College Cambridge (though he only spent one year there). He had been involved in accountancy and insurance, including the rescue of the Banco Italo-Britannica, before he joined the Bank in 1933 as a Adviser. Cobbold was made an Executive Director in 1938, Deputy Governor in 1945 and was appointed Governor in 1949. He served two full five years terms, and agreed to stay on from 1959 so that the recommendations of Radcliffe Committee could be implemented. He resigned as Governor in 1961 and was appointed as Lord Chamberlain of Her Majesty's Household in 1963. |
