ActivityIt was decided to open a new branch in Southampton in 1938. Premises on the High Street were acquired soon afterwards and the building rebuilt to designs by A V Heal. The branch opened for business on 29 April 1940, with G E Carr as Agent. Apart from being a centre for the issue and payment of notes in the south of England, the branch was well placed for receiving and shipping gold and currency and was established mainly for use as a gold depository. It closed on 28 Nov 1986, when the Branch moved to Winchester (Central Southern Agency).
