DescriptionThe Bank's index of retail sales, from 1930. Discussion with London and Cambridge Economic Service (LCES) about an index of manufacturers' sales; scheme launched by Bank and LCES jointly, 1931 [results not in file]. 1935: figures of wholesale textiles collected by Bank (details set out in February/March 1951 papers). Bank decline to collect statistics for an Association of Hire Purchase Finance Companies, 1937; the Timber Trade Federation, 1938; the National Book Council, 1938; the Radio Manufacturers Association, 1938; and (apparently) the Builders Merchants Committee. A summary in note of 11 October 1943. The file also contains papers on other statistical requests: Professor Victor Morgan, 1947 - 1950, for his study of British Financial Policy during and shortly afterWorld War One; the Bank for International Settlemements (BIS), for financial statistics, 1948; Sir Henry Clay, for world trade before 1914; and Richard Stone, Department of Applied Economics, Cambridge University, for capital movements in the inter-war years.
